Castles
Castles were originally created in as a means of providing a protected residence for Kings and noblemen in the times between the 10th century and the 15th century A.D. While early castles were made of just wood and dirt, they quickly evolved into massive forts with nearly impenetrable walls.
Castles have many different parts. Though not all castles have these exact constituents, it is common to see a castle with at least one of these features:
In the way of defense, castles had it all. Not only were the walls thick to withstand siege weapons, they also housed archer locations. Along the walls were also towers, which gave archers a better view of the enemy. Blocking the entrance were "murder holes." These holes were where soldiers poured boiling oil or water onto their attackers. If the attackers managed to make it into the inner wall, they were faced with the Bailey, a large open space where defending troops could rain down arrows.
These defenses protected the inside of the castle, which held everything else. Castles could survive for weeks without ever opening it's doors due to its storage, water supply, and craftsmen creating new weapons to fight off a siege.

- Dungeons
- ...and much more
