The Tragic, Bloody, and Murderous Downfall of Macbeth
He started with noble deeds
As he served Scotland and its needs
He was moving right along
Until the Witches sang their horrid song
Thane of Cawdor you shall be
Kingship you shall see
It was the prophecies that mislead
And caused Macbeth to think despite his head
He developed a thirst for ambition
By first killing Duncan against his intuition
He then uncovered a greed for power
And its effects on all were brutally sour
He proceeded to murder his friend Banquo
In order to preserve and keep his power aglow
But too late did Macbeth come to see
That next in line was Banquo’s marquis
In keeping his present dominance
He gave Banquo’s heirs future prominence
Macbeth continued down this treacherous path
By dominating Scotland with his vicious wrath
However he became uncertain of his authority
And visited the Witches as if it were a priority
They said he was invincible
That his power was absolute, and he was unsinkable
He was told of two exceptions
That would eventually cause two fatal misconceptions
No man of woman born shall harm Macbeth
And only Birnam Wood on Dunsinane can cause his death
Oblivious and blind he remained
The tyrant within felt wholly unrestrained
As Macbeth’s prowess was built
Lady Macbeth tremendously suffered from great guilt
Of the dark she was afraid
And her mental state was clearly decayed
Her grief was too grand
And she took her life with her own hand
Macbeth retained guilt as well
But by his murderous decisions it proceeded to quell
As his downfall approached
It was Macduff’s family whom he next encroached
Macbeth killed his children and wife
Which augmented an already ignited strife
Macbeth and Macduff would now square against each other
Each wanting to defeat one another
Macbeth thought his fate was secure
But Macduff’s condition was too much for him to endure
Macbeth believed he would hold on to his power, his predilection
But little did he know, Macduff was born from cesarean section
Macduff defeated Macbeth through a beheading
And announced that goodness in Scotland would begin spreading
It was here that Macbeth’s downfall would come about
And the reign of tyranny would quickly close out
It was at the expense of many
That Macbeth pursued his ambition plenty
His claim to power corrupted
And his violent actions erupted
But at his death Scotland could rest
For the tyrant Macbeth had been repressed
